Parents: They hear you!

Parents have a major influence on their child's choices. 42% of Defiance County Youth (ages 12-18) have indicated their parents as their biggest influencer of not using alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs.

Less than half of Defiance County parents (47%) have discussed the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, or misusing prescription drugs with their 10 to 18 year old child.

Research shows that parents who talk to their teen about substance use decrease their child's risk of using by 50%. 


 This Ohio initiative helps parents navigate tough conversations. According to the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence, children who talk to their parents about the risks associated with substance use are 50% less likely to use alcohol and drugs.
